신원식 “나도 육군이지만, 합참의장은 해군 시켜야”

“이번 합참의장은 해군을 시키시는 게 좋을 것 같습니다.” 대통령실과 국방부에 따르면 신원식(사진) 국방부 장관은 윤석열 대통령과 최근 군 인사안을 상의하며 “저도 육군 출신이지만 육군이 계속 합참의장을 해 왔다. 해군에 특출나게 뛰어난 인재가 있다”며 이렇게 말했다고 한다.
신 장관이 ‘특출난 인재’로 거론한 이는 중장(3성) 출신인 김명수 해군작전사령관이다. 정부는 지난 29일 김 사령관을 제44대 합동참모의장 후보자로 지명하는 등 육·해·공군 참모총장 등 대장(4성 장군) 7명 전원을 교체하는 장성 인사를 발표했다. 해군 출신 합참의장 발탁은 2013년 최윤희 전 의장 이후 10년 만이자 역대 두 번째다. 국방부 장·차관,신원식나도육군이지만합참의장은해군시켜야 정책실장까지 모두 육군 출신이 자리했던 상황에서 예상 밖의 파격 인사로 받아들여졌다.
